Using Blogging in the Classroom

As a future teacher, I have found that reading the blogs of current teachers (especially those in their first few years) has been extremely helpful gaining ideas and insight for my teaching days.

When I become a teacher, I would like to join the blogger world by sharing the succeses and failures in my first year-specifically in terms of lesson planning.

I also think blogging is a great resource for connecting parents to the classroom. I would like to use a blog to show parents who I am, what the class is doing, and present extra resources to extend children's learning at home.

Here is a little information about my teaching interests for the future:

 

 1. Grade Level of Interest:

 I've heard it said many times that future teachers should expect to be flexible when it comes to what grade levels they are willing to teach-so I have decided to go ahead and  adopt this  mindset now. I'll take any grade K-6, without much preference to any grade in particular. From working with girls at summer camp the past five years-I've learned there are wonderful things to love about each age and grade-so I will be happy with whatever I can find!

 

2. Subject Areas of Interest:

 

Though I personally enjoy English above all other subjects-I know elementary teachers have to teach it all. As I take my Emporia courses I get more excited about teaching scarier subjects like math and science because I am gaining more understanding in those areas.

 

3. Why I want to be a teacher:

 

I think this answer has several layers to it. On the surface, I want to be a teacher for the kids. Kids need loving adults in their life. They need adults who are around them constantly who can propel them forward in life. Especially for those who may not have anyone else, they need to know there is an adult they can come to with fears and problems to find  comfort and solutions. I want to be that for them.

 

I think this is what most teachers would say if they were asked the same question. Being  a teacher has a lot of selfless attributes to it. Teachers are givers,  and they deserve a lot of praise for it. But then-going down deeper to another level-I also want to be a teacher for quite selfish reasons, too; because I know how much one receives from working with children. Children bring immense joy! It is my privilege to work with kids-it is a gift. The little things they say and do bless me and give me greater purpose in my everyday work with them. They are each too special to be overlooked, and they all can bring beautiful things into this world. To me, working with kids is the best job EVER. So to be paid to do that full time-however it looks-and even with its difficulties, is stinkin' awesome.

And that's why I want to be a teacher.
